Templates are text-based tools that allow editors to conveniently edit aspects of articles without having to write out all the actual code. Instead, the editor typically just needs to fill out the necessary parameters (variables). You can call a template in your code by typing the template's name within two pairs of curly brackets (e.g.: the code for Template:kor would be {{kor}})

Templates are also useful because they allow editors to quickly make changes to all pages using a certain template. For example, if I modified the code in Template:Fair use, every instance of the fair use template (code: {{Fair use}}) on every page of this wiki would be modified to reflect the change.
